Quiet time with Jesus isn’t just a “Christian habit” — it’s essential for your spiritual growth and daily strength.


But let’s be honest: have you ever tried to build a quiet time with Jesus, only to find yourself distracted, inconsistent, or even discouraged?


I’ve been there too. For years, I would start strong, then slip into excuses: “I’m too tired today,”

“I have to rush to work,” or “I’ll just pray quickly and make up for it later.” The list went on.


It wasn’t until I shifted my mindset that everything changed. I began to see my time with Jesus not as a duty but as my defense for the day. If I wanted wisdom, peace, and direction, I had to seek God consistently in prayer and His Word. I discovered that fellowship with God is not optional — it’s my lifeline.


And here’s the truth: quiet time isn’t about making God happy with us. It’s the place where we receive strength, wisdom, and guidance from Him. At first, it might feel dry or like “nothing is happening.” But if you keep showing up, your relationship with God will deepen. Consistency matters more than perfection.


So how do you actually build a consistent quiet time with the Lord?


Here are some practical keys:



1. Choose a Consistent Time


Pick a time you can stick with — morning or night. Jesus Himself modeled this: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35).


Morning is powerful because you start your day with God. But if your schedule makes mornings difficult, evenings are just as valuable. The key is showing up daily.



2. Create a Dedicated Space


Find a place where you can minimize distractions and focus on God. Your space should feel comfortable and inviting — whether it’s a cozy corner of your home, your car, a park bench, or even your kitchen table. The environment matters more than we think. When you enjoy the place, you’ll look forward to meeting God there.



3. Prioritize Worship


Worship transforms your quiet time. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He started with honoring God: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”


Begin your quiet time by praising God for who He is. Sing, pray, or simply thank Him. Worship shifts your heart, re-centers your focus, and energizes your spirit.



4. Stay Rooted in the Word


The Bible is the primary way God speaks to us. Choose a book of the Bible to focus on weekly or monthly. Don’t rush — let the verses sink in.


Ask the Holy Spirit questions about your life as you read. You’ll be amazed at how often His answers come straight from Scripture. I’ve asked God specific questions, and over and over, He has answered me through His Word.



5. Let the Holy Spirit Lead


Your quiet time doesn’t need to look the same every day. Some days, you may worship for an hour. Other days, you may spend most of your time in Scripture, journaling, or even listening to a sermon.


The important part is showing up and letting the Holy Spirit guide the flow. Don’t put God in a box — He simply wants to spend time with you.

Enjoy your time with God. Go into it with expectation — not just to talk, but to listen. Quiet time is where your heart gets aligned with His.


And remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be consistent and sincere.
